A team of students from the University of Belgrade received special recognition for their project, “Nuclear City of the Future”, at Global HackAtom 2026, an international competition in nuclear energy. The final round took place on September 14 and 15 as part of the International Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation. This year’s competition brought together 15 teams of young professionals and students from different countries, who presented their visions for the future applications of nuclear technologies through their innovative solutions. The Serbian team presented a concept for using nuclear energy and modern technologies to develop a sustainable city of the future. The Erasmus+ project “ACE – Alliance for Community Engagement in European Higher Education”, co-funded by the European Union, has successfully entered its third year of implementation. The ACE project aims to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in addressing societal challenges across Europe by fostering active and responsible engagement of the academic community with society. Through the establishment of peer-to-peer learning alliances, academic staff have the opportunity to develop and exchange strategies and practices that contribute to creating more inclusive, connected, and socially engaged higher education. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade is one of 18 partners from 11 European countries participating in the KINETIKA project, which is being implemented under the Horizon Europe programme (Call: HORIZON-CL2-2024-HERITAGE-ECCCH-01, Project No. 101233379). The project is focused on the preservation of dynamic cultural heritage, namely objects and structures that contain mechanical or movable elements. Particular attention is given to heritage assets whose mechanical systems are affected by ageing, operational loads, and degradation, making traditional documentation methods insufficient for fully understanding, monitoring, and analysing their behaviour over time.
