First and third-year undergraduate students of the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, attending the elective courses Railway Systems and Life Cycle of Railway Vehicles, recently visited the TPS (Depot) in Zemun – a specialised maintenance workshop for electric multiple units and passenger coaches. The visit was organised as part of the long-standing and highly successful cooperation between the Department of Railway Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the railway company Srbija Voz. The cooperation is primarily focused on the development of highly specialised engineering staff, as well as joint work on development projects aimed at improving and optimising the company’s operations. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade will host the national stage of the international student competition Global HackAtom 2026, which will take place in Belgrade on 27 and 28 May, organised by the Russian State Corporation Rosatom and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Faculty’s management and senior representatives of Rosatom, held in Belgrade on Friday, April 24. Second-year Master’s students from the Motor Vehicles Module at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, along with Bachelor students attending the course “Vehicle Performances”, had the opportunity to test the dynamic characteristics of the BMW 650i at the track of the National Driving Academy (NAVAK) in Subotište. The vehicle itself is a donation from BMW, the German automotive company based in Munich. The training session included test track preparation, installation of measurement equipment, and vehicle testing, with continuous monitoring of the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour. The collected data will serve as a valuable foundation for further analysis and simulations conducted by the students. The student association Beoavia, based at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, is entering the new competition season with a series of ambitious projects. Among them, the development of the unmanned cargo aircraft “Svitac” stands out, designed for participation in the prestigious Air Cargo Challenge 2026. The aircraft’s primary mission will be the transport of cargo, specifically 0.33-liter cans. The Air Cargo Challenge is one of the most prominent student competitions in aerospace engineering, bringing together teams from universities around the world. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade and the conventional software company KISSsoft AG have successfully renewed their collaboration, enabling students to gain direct access to one of the leading software tools for transmission system and gearbox design – KISSsoft®. For educational purposes, KISSsoft AG has granted the faculty 40 five-year licenses for the use of this software. These licenses are primarily intended for students enrolled in the “Design in Mechanical Engineering” module, within the course “High-speed Machine Design”, but the software is also available to other interested students and faculty members for use in their respective courses. Serbia holds strong potential for the development of the aerospace industry. This was clearly demonstrated by second-year Master’s students from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Recently, they presented their final projects from the course “Aircraft Design” to a large audience. Through a range of innovative solutions – from agricultural aircraft and business jets to unmanned and sport aircraft – these young engineers proved they can play a key role in the modernisation of domestic aviation. Prof. Dr Vladimir Popović, Dean of the Faculty Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Serbian Association of Importers of Vehicles and Parts and the Belgrade Fair for his outstanding personal and professional contribution to the development and promotion of the automotive industry and vehicle market in the Republic of Serbia. Miloš Lazarević, a PhD student and junior assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, won first prize at the conference “Knowledge and Technologies of the Nuclear Industry in the Future” for his project on small modular fusion reactor concepts. The conference was held as part of the Third International Winter Technical School “Knowledge and Technologies of the Nuclear Industry in the Future” in Obninsk, Russian Federation. The distinguished guest was welcomed by the Dean, Prof. Dr Vladimir Popović.
