Milo\u0161 Lazarevi\u0107, a PhD student and junior assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, won first prize at the conference \u201cKnowledge and Technologies of the Nuclear Industry in the Future\u201d for his project on small modular fusion reactor concepts. The conference was held as part of the Third International Winter Technical School \u201cKnowledge and Technologies of the Nuclear Industry in the Future\u201d in Obninsk, Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

Over the next five months, Milo\u0161 Lazarevi\u0107 will further develop this concept under the mentorship of Prof. Dr Dmitry Samokhin and Prof. Dr Alexandr Nakhabov from the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering. The goal is to prepare a detailed project proposal, which he will present in June to the Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev.<\/p>\n

The international winter school was organised by Rosatom and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Engineering (MEPhl). During the five-day programme, more than 120 young researchers and professionals from 47 countries attended lectures on current and future nuclear technology projects, along with visits to leading Russian scientific and technical institutions.<\/p>\n

This marks the second major award for Milo\u0161 Lazarevi\u0107 in the field of nuclear engineering. It is worth noting that in August 2024, he received the award for the best scientific paper at the International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE), held in Prague.<\/p>\n

Members of the Laboratory for Steam Generators and Nuclear Reactors, within the Department of Thermal Power Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, have already participated in educational programmes organised by Rosatom. In mid-January this year, the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr Sanja Milojevi\u0107 and Milo\u0161 Lazarevi\u0107 took part in the online school \u201cOperating principles and Technological Aspects of Nuclear Power Plants with VVER-1200 Technology\u201d, where they gained in-depth knowledge of this advanced nuclear technology.<\/p>\n
